St. Barbara is believed to have lived in the 3rd century in Heliopolis Phoenicia, or present-day Lebanon. According to most narratives, St. Barbara was carefully guarded by her father who kept her locked in a tower in order to preserve her, and her beauty, from the outside world - many have compared her to a real life Rapunzel! Committed to her faith as a Christian, she was persecuted and died as a martyr for her faith.
