How can you tell if a bronze sculpture is real?
As everyone may know, the bronze we call collectively is divided into brass, red copper, cupronickel and so on. Different materials make different sculptures. Bronze contains two substances: copper and tin. Copper generally accounts for 80-90%.
There is also a kind of bronze on the market, it is not a real bronze, it is a mixture of resin and bronze powder. It is cheap and is called cold cast bronze or bonded bronze. Its robustness is much lower than that of real bronze. There is also iron, which is also used as a substitute for cast bronze. So how do we distinguish it?
Identify weight and sound
Genuine bronze products are generally heavier, while fake bronze products are relatively light. A good-quality bronze sculpture is hollow. As long as you tap the hollow position lightly, it will make a sound like a bell. The resin is solid, and there will be a sound of wood hitting the railing.
Distinguish appearance and magnetism
Bronze statues made of iron are easier to judge. Only a small magnet is needed to reveal his original shape. And real bronze will not rust, if old bronzes will have patina. The real bronze will have a smooth surface and light after the patina is wiped off.
The real bronze is very durable, if it is damaged, it can be re-welded for repair, which has high artistic value. If you need bronze sculptures, you can contact us, we have high-quality bronze sculptures for you to choose from.
