The bronze gymnast statue can be found at Shannon Miller Park, next to the Edmond Library. It was dedicated on May 12, 2001. The statue is 18’7″ and sits on top of a 9′ pedestal. It was sculpted by Shan Gray. Shannon Miller holds seven Olympic medals, two world championships and two national championships. A portion of I-35 in Edmond is named in her honor. After she swept the gymnastics medals at the Olympics, Edmond had a parade in her honor.
Gymnastics is a sport that requires strength, flexibility, core strength, balance, upper and lower-body strength, power, mental focus, discipline and dedication. Although not necessarily a skill, commitment is mandatory and is often assessed by gymnastic coaches. So this female gymnast sculpture is gorgeous and perfect and strong.
